Making sure your office or work desk is clear and organised will naturally ensure you are more productive. Often, having lots of paperwork, computer screens and wires all over the desk can clutter your mind and make you feel that you have so much to do.To avoid this feeling, and to help stay calm when dealing with stressful work projects, have a clear desk, organised pen pots, less computer screens and perhaps some sticky tabs, bookmarks and a diary for organisation of work. The room you choose to make into your home office has a big impact on the mood of the room and how slow or quick you can work and be productive.
For example, having a small and dark room may leave you feeling sleepy and lethargic, while having a room with large windows to allow natural lighting in make you feel energised.Your home office room is often made in the only room left in the house – the smallest bedroom, often with a tiny window. You can upgrade your windows to match the traditional or contemporary styles of your house, and to maximise the natural light coming in. There are different types of windows you can choose from, such as UPVC, timber and aluminium, all of which have their own pros and cons.
By decorating your home office, you can choose the mood and energy of the room. This can be done by putting up artwork, paintings, clocks, and even plants. Making it a green area with lots of plants and flowers will naturally make it a calmer room, and increase productivity too.Pink – pink is associated with love, optimism, creativity and calm, making is good for an office space. A dark pink can encourage high energy, while a light or baby pink can be calming and foster creativity.Blue – Blue is soothing and calming, making it a comfortable place to relax in.
Associated with wisdom and creativity, it can be great for office work. It is a good idea to keep to lighter and medium blues, and not go with darker, navy blues, to avoid feeling sad and lethargic, or the room becoming too dark.Purple – Purple will foster feelings of power, strength and optimism, good for those with management roles, but is also encourages compassion. Lavender purple is linked to calm and serenity, so this is a good option.White – White works in any room, but having it as an office colour can keep it light, and give it an airy, spacious feeling, to avoid feeling that you are stuck at your desk all day.
